If you've ever wanted to watch Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch hurl insults (and oranges) at each other, then today's your lucky day. Searchlight Pictures has released a trailer for The Roses, an upcoming dark comedy about a divorce from hell.
Directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Bombshell) and written by Tony McNamara (The Favourite, Poor Things), The Roses reimagines the 1989 dark comedy The War of The Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler. The original film starred Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas, and Danny DeVito, who also directed.
In The Roses, Cumberbatch and Colman play Theo and Ivy Rose. He's a high-powered architect, she's a successful chef, and they have a wonderful family life. But tensions brew when Theo's career crashes as Ivy's blossoms, setting the pair up for a competitive divorce — including a showdown over who gets their gorgeous house.
The trailer is full of crackling insults ("You are a bottomless pit of need") as well as glimpses of Cumberbatch and Colman's all-out fights. If you thought the arguments were intense, just wait until Ivy pulls a gun on Theo. (He counters with a thrown orange, which proves surprisingly effective.)
The trailer also showcases The Roses' stellar supporting cast, which includes Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon.
Watch the full trailer above to witness the glorious Cumberbatch-Colman showdown for yourself.
The Roses hits theaters Aug. 29.
