Irish Grand National 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Templegate's tip plus runners and riders (1)

THE Irish Grand National is here as punters cap off their Easter weekend with the Fairyhouse showpiece.

Willie Mullins had saddled two winners in the English and Scottish editions of the National in recent weeks, but could not make it a famous hat-trick as Quai De Bourbon was pipped by winner Haiti Couleurs and second-best Any Second Now.

Trainer Ted Walsh confirmed the retirement of 13-year-old Any Second Now following his performance in today's Irish Grand National.

    Underwhelming outing from Stablemates

Renowned dual-purpose trainer Gavin Cromwell has had a fantastic campaign, but with Grade 2-winning hurdler Now Is The Hour failed to make any impact on the day as the horse pulled up after a few jumps.

Stablemate Bioluminescence, also noted to stun due to the superb mare reaching top form and favoured in the conditions of Fairyhouse, was also a PU.

"I was calm until the last two fences" - Curtis

Following on from Bowen's quotes, trainer Curtis had her say:

"Sean just said to me there 'I thought we had another circuit to go, I was in second gear the whole way'.

"He is so tough to do it like he has done it, on that ground as well as it was a bit of a worry – but it wasn’t a bother to him.

"He does (travel through his races). Although he stays well, he is not what I call a slow horse at all. He has got a high cruising speed.

"I think this feels like one of our best wins, just the atmosphere and everything.

"I did feel the pressure, I haven’t slept for about two weeks. I was calm until the last two fences.

"To me, it is a bigger win than Cheltenham because it is hard to come here and win an Irish handicap, I know that."

When asked if he could be a Gold Cup horse next year, she replied: "If he keeps improving, yes."

'I want more after Cheltenham absence' - Bowen

Haiti Couleurs delivered an outstanding effort to win the Boylesports Irish Grand National for Rebecca Curtis and Sean Bowen, while the Fairyhouse feature was exported.

The champion jockey-elect in Britain went back in the saddle and delivered his steed the perfect ride up front after winning the Cheltenham Festival last month when his usual rider Sean Bowen was unable to attend.

"I honestly can't believe it. He was doing a half-speed the whole way round, he was hacking and at the same time I was frightened as he got fairly revved up beforehand," Bowen told RTÉ Sport

"I actually thought I’m a bit too keen, as he was doing everything in second gear. I’m so grateful to everyone, obviously I couldn’t ride him at Cheltenham and I’m so grateful to Becky for letting me back on him.

To be champion jockey is all I've ever wanted and I supposed when you get it then you want to do more. I need the big winners as well and it’s great that this lad has done it for me."

    Haiti Couleurs with strong finish

It was all about how smoothly Haiti Couleurs took the fences today, to open up a lead coming into the straight.

Once Sean Bowen had got his nose in front, he never looked back.

Even managing to hold a very late charge from Any Second Now.

    Team celebrate landmark victory

Everyone involved with Haiti Couleurs posed for cameras with their trophy for winning the Irish Grand National.

This horse has a lot to give and we could see it start winning plenty more races in the future.

Credit has to go to Sean Bowen for how well he worked with the horse to get the near perfect race from it.

Mullins falls short in big race

Willie Mullins had to settle for third place with horse Quai De Bourbon this afternoon.

The 11/2 favourite just could not catch Haiti Couleurs as the horse ran a race better than the Mullins' horse.

No doubt the trainer will be back next year looking to improve on today's showing.

Celebrating Haiti Couleurs in big race

Sean Bowen has had a day to remember in Fairyhouse today.

While he went into this race as just one of the horses that has a chance if things go well, he surprised many.

The champagne will be flowing and I am sure the owners will be lauding his ride in this Irish Grand National.

    Big win in spring sunshine

Haiti Couleurs took the biggest prize of them all in the Irish race calendar.

The trainer and owners could not have written a better script themselves for how the day panned out.

Seeing their horse romp home to show this is a horse to watch out for in the future, now having big race wins under its belt.

Experience of winning in these sorts of races is not something that can be taught.
