People who inject drugs (PWIDs) face severe health challenges, including high rates of HIV, viral hepatitis, and TB, compounded by stigma and limited access to care. In response to these issues, Ciheb Kenya CONNECT Program, in collaboration with by the Nairobi City County, conducted a targeted outreach for young PWIDs in Starehe and Dagoreti Sub-counties. The outreach provided essential health services directly in PWIDs hotspots such as Kiboro, Gaza, Kiamboni, and Ndunyu, offering HIV testing, STI and TB screening (including chest X-rays and sputum tests), cervical cancer screening, and mental health support. Despite the barriers these communities face, our commitment remains steadfast in improving health outcomes and empowering vulnerable populations.#PublicHealth#UniversalHealthCoverage#CommunityHealth

Representatives from Ciheb Kenya's Senior Management Team had a highly productive meeting with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to explore opportunities for synergy and partnership. The team discussed widely on potential collaborative efforts in areas such as operational research, policy review and development, business development research, and above-site partnerships. Additionally, there were discussions on ways to support the Ministry of Health's Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda to build sustainable health systems.Looking ahead, we're excited about the possibility of signing a memorandum of intention to guide more structured engagement with the institution. This agreement will enhance the quality of research, service delivery, and the implementation of data-driven, evidence-based interventions.#CihebKenya#UniversalHealthCoverage#policydevelopment

Kitui County Launches HIV Transition Roadmap.Kitui County, under the leadership of H.E Governor Julius M. Malombe, has officially launched its ambitious HIV Transition Roadmap. This significant initiative is supported by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Kenya through the Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity (Ciheb Kenya) Partnership for Advanced Care and Treatment (PACT) Imara Program. During the launch event, Governor Malombe reiterated his commitment to the transition, highlighting the initial absorption of the first everto be transitioned eight Health Care Providers in the current financial year and a gradual absorption of the remaining in the next five years to ensure continuity of HIV services. The HIV Transition Roadmap aligns with the Government of Kenya's broader strategy to shift from over reliant on external funding to domestic financing for healthcare by 2030. The plan focuses on six key health system building blocks: enhancing leadership and governance, integrating HIV services with other health programs, building fiscal capacity, ensuring continuous service delivery, strengthening health information systems, and improving access to essential health products and infrastructure. To oversee this transition, a Tripartite County Transition Committee (CTT) has been established, including representatives from the Kitui County Government, US-CDC Kenya, and implementing partners such as CIHEB-Kenya, CHAK and LVCT HEALTH. The CTT has conducted a baseline assessment to identify key gaps and formulate the transition plan. This roadmap aims to foster sustainable, locally-led healthcare solutions, ensuring Kitui County achieves a self-reliant and effective HIV/TB response while maintaining public health progress for its residents.Speaking during the launch, the Ag Country Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Kenya Dr. Jennifer Galbraith commended the county’s dedication to the transition. She assured of CDC support to ensure a responsible transition of the HIV program to the County Government of Kitui, acknowledging the county's capacity to effectively run the HIV program.
